Psalm

I love reading through the book of Psalm. The most honest, real, joyful, and sorrowful words are written for us to read. A lot of the Psalms were written by David, you know, the one who defeated Goliath. The David who had an affair with his neighbors wife then sent him to the front-line of the battle to be killed to cover up his mistake. Others wrote in the book. But the words you read are words from real people going through real life.

Here's what I would like you to do:
  1. Take a few moments to read through some of the Psalms. Try to read at least 3-4 chapters in Psalm.
  2. In the comments section, tell us about what spoke to you in a particular Psalm. Start off by writing what Psalm you will be talking about, then write at least 2-3 sentences describing how that Psalm spoke to you, how it resonated with you, or what you were surprised by.
  3. Read someone else's Psalm that they wrote about, and write a comment back to them about their Psalm. Again, it could be something that it showed you about God, or something that resonated with you, or something that surprised you.
I look forward to seeing the responses.

  1. Psalm 13
This week I started a short 2 day devotional in the Holy Bible ap called Jesus, I need You. One of the bible readings for the second day was Psalm 13. I have read and reread both the encouraging words in that devotional along with Psalm 13 all week. In Psalm 13 the writer cries out and wants to know how long God will forget him. He feels alone and that he is being attacked. I know how he feels! Then in the last two verses there is a change of attitude, a change of heart. He says he trusts God's unfailing love and that he will sing his praises. Those last two verses remind me that when I feel like the world is crashing down on me, I can trust God. Even more, I can not just trust him but find joy in my troubles. So this week I have tried rejoicing and trusting more than being overwhelmed by my troubles. I haven't always succeeded but it has helped me refocus and brought peace.

    1. This one reminded me that everything in bad times seams to get worse but in the end, everything works out the way God wanted it to be.

  2. Psalm 27:1
The Lord is my light and my salvation- whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life- of whom shall I be afraid?

This passage reminded me that God is always with me. He is always watching over me and I should never be afraid because He is by my side. This passage reminds me that no matter what happens I don't have to be afraid.

    1. This Psalm reminded me of how God and Jesus show us the way and protect us from darkness showing that there is nothing be afraid of. It also reminded me that he is our concrete foundation our rock against the waves.

  3. I read Psalms 18-20. The specif Psalm that spoke to me was Psalm 20:8 They are brought to theire knees and fall, but we rise up and stand firm. What I thought this Psalm was saying was that when we fall God will be there to lift us up. And that he is there to help us during the tough times. And that we will overcome sin with God.

    1. I think this is totally right on. Josh really hits the nail on the head here. God is always there for us through tough times. It's just hard in those times for us to seek him first. I know I have difficulty with that sometimes and want to get better at just glorifying god through the hard times and the good. I hope josh that you also seek him out in these times and I hope you have a good day!

  4. I read Psalm 91.

This chapter as a whole spoke to me because - “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” This is both a wonderful reminder, and a step on the toes to remind me to stop worrying about things that\ I don't have control over, but the things I do as well.

    1. I love as I'm reading all of these Psalms from everyone that each one of them has to do with trust. As we all know, David was a man after God's own heart and that made Him a righteous man in God's eyes. I'm glad Norm had do this devotion because I think everyone going on this trip somehow and in someway needs the "step out of their boat" (Peter during the storm) and give over their full attention and faith to God. Psalm clearly shows us, through David, that God works mightily in the lives of those who are after His own heart. And when we all strive after the same task on this trip, I hope to see the heavy hand of God working through our team into the community; ultimately leading people to Christ, whether it be directly or indirectly.

    I read Psalm 56.

Psalm 56:9 says "My enemies will retreat when I call to you for help. This I know: God is on my side!" Sometimes I forget that He is there for me all the time not some of the time.

  7. I read Psalms 2.

Psalms 2:3 reads, "Let us break their chains and throw off their shackles." This is the verse that stuck out like a sore thumb, to me. This tells me that whenever one of my friends are in a bad mood I can lift them up and remind them that Jesus Christ is always there weather or not they believe in him.

  8. I personally thought the very first psalm that talks about not following the wicked is very important. Especially to me and every young person around it's just hard sometimes to keep on your own path with so many things trying to push you off course. I think it just hits me right at home with some stresses I've had lately and I hope it helps me to stay on path to be riotous in God's eyes and glorify him through my actions.

    1. For sure! I've been the same way, a lot of things have pushed me around and it's helps keep me "grounded" knowing that I have good Christian friends out there:)

  9. Psalm 18 in of itself is just great because David cries out to God in a great time of despair and He puts complete trust in God. By the end of the hymn, David is rejoicing for the act of God working against his strongest enemies. I think I speak for everyone when I say everyone has come to face at least once with something that was much more greater than themselves. You tried to face it as best as you knew how but we step back to see the bigger picture; some things are not within our ability to handle, at least not on our own. That's when we need to cry out to God, thank Him for what He has done with our lives and put 110% faith in Him. We need to acknowledge the fact that as human beings, we are merely grains of sand in the palm of His hand and that sometimes, things are just out of our control. Personally, I feel like I've gone through so much in so little time, but in the midst of all of that, I can still thank God because I'm still here to serve Him and to worship Him. Whether it be me getting into a disagreement with my parents or hunched over the toilet bowl because my diabetes doesn't want to cooperate with me for the entire day, I still praise Him for the life I do have and continue to have. As I type this, I remember the song by Casting Crowns called "Praise You in This Storm". Reading Psalm just for leisure is a treat so I think I'll be doing a bit more reading of Psalms.

  10. Psalm 5:3 In the morning, Lord, you hear my voice; in the morning I lay my requests before you and wait expectantly.
My biggest issue, and I think a lot of people's, is that when I get up in the morning the first thing I want to do is crawl back in bed. By the time I actually get up and start getting ready for my day, the rest of my day is occupying my mind. I never take time to pray and just talk with God. If I were to do this, I believe my day would be so much better. Stopping to thank Him for all He's done and asking Him to watch over me as I go through the day? I've heard of the concept but never applied it. No more. Reading this at this point in my life, I'm going to make this simple change and I know things will get better.

  11. One section I read that impacted me was Psalms 77: 11-15. The part where it ways "Your ways, O God, are holy. What god is so great as our God? Your are the God who performs miracles; you display your power among the peoples." This is so true! God I awesome! He is with us where ever we go and he can do anything. Sometimes I just need to remember how awesome God is.

  13. I read Psalms 6
“For the Lord watches over the righteous , but the way of the wicked seeks destruction.
This reminds me that I should follow God ,because he is the light and I’m sure of it he doesn’t want me to go breaking the commandments ,because God is pure light.
